Terms of service
Last updated: May 5, 2026
These terms govern your use of Vela Mail ("Vela", "we", "us"). By downloading or using the app you agree to them. If you don't agree, don't use the app.
1. The service
Vela is an iOS email client that connects directly to your mail provider. We do not operate mail servers. We do not store your mail. The app is offered as-is, with no warranty, on a best-effort basis.
2. Accounts and conduct
You're responsible for the mail accounts you connect and for complying with each provider's terms (Google Workspace ToS, Microsoft Services Agreement, Apple iCloud Agreement, etc.). Don't use Vela to:
- Send spam, unsolicited bulk mail, or chain letters.
- Harass, threaten, or impersonate another person.
- Distribute malware, phishing payloads, or fraudulent content.
- Violate applicable law, including export controls and privacy laws.
- Reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract source code from the binary.
We reserve the right to terminate access for any account that materially violates these rules.
3. Subscriptions and billing
Vela offers a free tier and a paid tier (Vela+) with monthly ($4.99) and annual ($39) options. Subscriptions are billed through your Apple ID via the App Store and renew automatically until you cancel.
- Cancellation: manage or cancel through Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions on your device. The current period continues until the next renewal date.
- Refunds: handled by Apple under their App Store refund policy. We don't issue direct refunds.
- Price changes: we will notify you in-app at least 30 days before any price change takes effect. Apple may also require explicit re-consent for substantial increases.
- Family Sharing: Vela+ does not currently support Family Sharing. We may enable it in a later release.
4. AI features
Vela+ includes on-device AI features (summary, smart replies, tone meter) that run locally using Apple's Foundation Models on iOS 18+ or local heuristics on older devices. AI output is generated and may contain errors; you are responsible for reviewing any AI-suggested text before sending. We disclaim liability for content generated by these features.
5. Privacy
Our handling of your data is described in the Privacy Promise. Read it. By using Vela, you accept that policy.
6. Intellectual property
Vela, the Vela logo, and all original app artwork are the property of Vela's developer. You receive a personal, non-transferable license to use the app on devices you own or control. You may not redistribute, sublicense, or sell access to the app.
7. Third-party services
Vela connects to third-party services (Gmail, Microsoft Graph, Apple iCloud, IMAP / SMTP servers, Apple StoreKit, Apple Push Notification service, Apple EventKit). Your use of those services is governed by their own terms, not ours.
8. Warranty disclaimer
Vela is provided "as is", without warranty of any kind, express or implied — including but not limited to merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of harmful components.
9. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Vela's total liability for any claim arising out of or relating to these terms or your use of the app is limited to the greater of: (a) the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim arose, or (b) USD 50. We are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including lost profits, lost data, or business interruption.
Vela is a tool that talks to your mail provider. We are not responsible for mail delivery, server downtime, account suspension, or data loss caused by your provider.
10. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. If we do, we'll bump the "Last updated" date and surface a notice in the app for material changes. Continued use after changes means you accept the new terms.
11. Termination
You can stop using Vela at any time by deleting the app. We can terminate your access if you materially violate these terms; provisions about intellectual property, warranty disclaimer, liability limitations, and governing law survive termination.
12. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction where Vela is operated, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Disputes are resolved in the courts of that jurisdiction. (We will name the specific jurisdiction here once Vela is incorporated; until then, treat this as a placeholder.)
